Behaviour Interactive organizes weekend gamejam competition April 12-14, 2024

110 developers set to take part in 48-hour Ludum Dare 55 competition.

Behaviour Interactive, Canada’s largest independent video game studio, will open its Montreal headquarters to 110 game developers the weekend of April 12 as part of the 55th edition of Ludum Dare, the world’s largest and longest-running gamejam.

Starting at 6 p.m. on April 12, participants will have 48 hours to build a video game from scratch based on a theme that will be revealed at the gamejam’s start. Recent editions of Ludum Dare involved themes such as Limited Space, Delivery, Harvest, Every 10 Seconds, and Delay the Inevitable. The popular Ludum Dare series was launched in 2002 and brings together game developers from around the world in the spirit of friendly competition and creativity.

“Creativity and creative freedom are cherished values here at Behaviour – we even invite our employees to work on their own games in their free time, which is something not many video game studios allow,” says Stephen Mulrooney, Executive Vice-President of Behaviour’s original games division and the studio’s CTO. “Opening our doors and hosting Ludum Dare is an expression of this commitment, not to mention a really fun way to encourage and give back to Montreal’s vibrant game development community.”

Gamejams are always popular and this latest edition of Ludum Dare is no different: an open call to register saw the cap of 110 participants met in under 48 hours! Of those registered, 86 are members of the public and 24 are employees of Behaviour. Participants will work alone or in teams to develop their game in accordance with the Ludum Dare rules.

All games will be judged by a jury of 10 experts from Behaviour and prizes will be awarded under the following categories:

  • Best Game (1st, 2nd and 3rd place)
  • Most innovative
  • Most fun
  • Most On-Theme
  • Best graphics
  • Best audio
  • Best vibe
  • Coolest
  • Most humorous
